Schools Across J&K to Reopen Tomorrow as Weather Improves: Officials
No Further Extension of Summer Vacation; Classes to Resume Across Kashmir and Jammu Divisions on July 27
Srinagar, July 26 (JKNS): All government and recognised private schools across Jammu and Kashmir will reopen on Monday, July 27, as scheduled, with no further extension in the summer vacation, following a marked improvement in weather conditions, officials said on Sunday.
A senior official in the School Education Department told news agency JKNS that the government has decided not to extend the summer vacation any further and that all schools across Jammu and Kashmir will reopen tomorrow.
A government official in the office of Education Minister also confirmed to JKNS that schools across the Union Territory will resume functioning on Monday.
Earlier, the government had announced summer vacations for all schools in the Kashmir Division and winter zones of Jammu Division from July 6 to July 19.
On July 18, the government extended the vacation till July 22 in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions and the adverse weather forecast. Education Minister Sakina Itoo had then stated that the extension was made keeping the safety of students and staff in mind.
Subsequently, following heavy rainfall, flash flood warnings and inclement weather, the government again extended the summer vacation till July 26 for schools in the Kashmir Division and winter zones of Jammu Division. Schools in the Jammu Division were also ordered to remain closed till July 26.
The extension came after the Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall and warned of flash floods between July 20 and July 23, prompting the administration to take precautionary measures.
While announcing the last extension, Education Minister Sakina Itoo had stated that schools would reopen on Monday, July 27, and officials have now confirmed that the decision remains unchanged as weather conditions have improved across the region.
Officials said all educational institutions have been directed to resume normal academic activities from Monday. (JKNS)
