JKBOSE Class 10 Syllabus 2026: Subject-Wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Assessment Details

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has published the Syllabi and Courses of Study for Class X, covering the prescribed subjects, course structure, examination pattern and internal assessment framework. The official document states that the syllabus is effective for the academic session 2025-26 for Kashmir Division and Winter Zone Areas of Jammu Division, and for the academic session 2026-27 for Summer Zone Areas of Jammu Division.

The syllabus document provides subject-wise details for Class 10 students, including compulsory subjects, optional languages, additional subjects, activity-related areas and provisions for Children with Special Needs (CWSN).

JKBOSE Class 10 Compulsory Subjects

According to the official syllabus document, every Class 10 candidate is required to take five compulsory subjects for qualifying the examination.

These compulsory subjects are:

• General English

• Urdu or Hindi

Social Science includes History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Disaster Management and Road Safety Education, while Science covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Students can also select one additional or optional language subject. The available languages include Urdu, Kashmiri, Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Dogri, Sanskrit, Bhoti and Punjabi. The document specifies that repetition of a compulsory language or subject is not permitted while selecting an additional or optional language or subject.

Additional and Optional Subjects

Apart from the language option, students can select one additional or optional subject from the available choices.

The syllabus document lists Vocational Subjects and Computer Science (Non-Vocational) under this category. It also includes activity-related areas such as Work Experience, Health and Physical Education and Art Education.

The document separately provides subject choices for Children with Special Needs. Apart from General English as a compulsory subject, CWSN candidates can opt for alternative courses including Painting, Music, Art and Drawing, Home Science and Computer Science. JKBOSE Class 10 Assessment Pattern

The Board states that internal assessment is intended to be a continuous part of the teaching and learning process. The 20-mark internal assessment consists of three broad components:

1. Periodic Assessment

The periodic assessment carries 10 marks, divided between Pen and Paper Assessment and Multiple Assessment.

Internal Assessment Components

The syllabus specifies that the Pen and Paper Assessment carries 5 marks. These classroom tests are conducted by the concerned subject teacher, with students maintaining separate test notebooks. The document also provides for communicating assessment results to students and parents through a report card or School Based Evaluation Card.

The Multiple Assessment component also carries 5 marks. Suggested assessment methods include quizzes, oral tests, class discussions, fieldwork, visual expression, representation and concept maps.

The Portfolio carries another 5 marks. The official syllabus describes a portfolio as a collection of students' work developed over time to demonstrate performance, progress, growth and achievement. Suggested elements include worksheets, essays, projects, models, map work, observations, pictures, experiences and anecdotal records.

The remaining 5 marks are allocated to Subject Enrichment Activities. The document outlines activities for different subjects, including language development, practical and investigatory work in Science and Mathematics, and projects related to Social Science and life skills.

Internal Assessment Grading

The JKBOSE document also provides a grading scale for the 20-mark internal assessment. Students securing 14 to 20 marks are placed in Grade A, those securing 7 to 13 marks receive Grade B, while students scoring below 7 marks are assigned Grade C, described as requiring improvement.

JKBOSE Class 10 English Syllabus and Exam Pattern

For English, the document provides an 80-mark theory paper and 20 marks for internal assessment, with a prescribed time of three hours. The textbook specified is Tulip Series Book X, A Textbook of English for Class X.

The English theory paper is divided into different sections. Reading Comprehension carries 15 marks, including questions based on a seen stanza, an unseen passage and visual or statistical information such as graphs and charts.

Grammar carries 10 marks and covers areas including modals, articles, relative clauses, tenses, narration and punctuation. The writing section carries 25 marks and includes dialogue writing, notice writing, message writing, letter writing, speech/article/paragraph writing and creative story writing.

JKBOSE Class 10 Mathematics Syllabus

Mathematics carries a total of 100 marks, comprising 80 external marks and 20 internal assessment marks, with a three-hour examination duration. The 80-mark theory syllabus is divided among seven units.

The units and their theory weightage are:

• Number Systems – 6 marks

• Algebra – 20 marks

The Mathematics syllabus includes topics such as real numbers, polynomials, pair of linear equations in two variables, quadratic equations, arithmetic progressions, coordinate geometry, triangles, circles, trigonometry, heights and distances, areas related to circles, surface areas and volumes, statistics and probability.

Social Science Syllabus

Social Science is also structured around 80 external marks and 20 internal assessment marks. The syllabus covers History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Disaster Management and Road Safety Education.

The History component, titled India and the Contemporary World – II, includes themes such as the rise of nationalism in Europe and nationalism in India. The prescribed topics also include areas relating specifically to Jammu and Kashmir, such as the Non-Cooperation Movement in Jammu and Kashmir and cultural awakening and growth of nationalism in the Jammu & Kashmir region.

The syllabus document also includes Jammu and Kashmir-related themes in other portions of Social Science, including the Case of Begar (Forced Labour in Kashmir), growth of industries in Jammu and Kashmir, and the development of print culture and the press in J&K.
