J&K Weather Update: Hot Conditions Till July 18, Heavy Rain, Flash Flood & Landslide Alert Issued for July 20–23

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MeT Centre Srinagar) has issued the latest weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting hot and humid conditions until July 18, followed by a significant increase in rainfall activity from July 20 to July 23, 2026.

According to the forecast, peak rainfall activity is expected on July 21 and July 22, with the possibility of heavy rainfall and intense showers in several districts of both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions. The MeT Department has also warned of flash floods, landslides, mudslides, waterlogging, and rising water levels in rivers and streams, particularly in vulnerable hilly areas.

Residents, tourists, farmers, and transporters have been advised to remain alert and follow official advisories.

Weather Forecast

July 16–18

  • Generally hot and humid weather across Jammu and Kashmir.

  • Possibility of brief spells of rain or thundershowers at a few places.

July 19

  • Partly cloudy skies.

  • Light to moderate rain/thundershowers expected at many places.

  • Brief intense heavy showers are likely at isolated locations in the Jammu Division.

    • July 20–23

    • Generally cloudy conditions.

  • Light to moderate rain/thundershowers expected at most places.

  • Peak rainfall activity is likely on July 21 and 22.

  • Heavy rainfall or brief intense showers are expected in a few districts of both the Kashmir Division and Jammu Division.

    • July 24–25

    • Brief spells of rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places.

    Weather Advisory

    The MeT Centre has issued the following advisory for the upcoming wet spell:

    • Heavy rainfall or brief intense showers may occur in some districts during July 19 and July 20–22, especially during the late afternoon, evening, night, and early morning hours.

  • There is a possibility of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas of the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal Range, and hilly regions of the Kashmir Division between July 20 and 22.

  • Waterlogging and minor flooding may occur in low-lying areas.

  • Water levels in rivers, streams, and local nallahs may rise significantly, particularly in the Jammu Division.

  • Farmers are advised to suspend agricultural operations from July 20 to July 23 due to the expected adverse weather.

  • Travellers, transporters, tourists, and trekkers should plan their journeys carefully and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas during periods of heavy rainfall.

    • Stay updated with the latest weather bulletins issued by the MeT Department.

  • Avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges, or overflowing streams.

  • Keep emergency supplies and essential medicines ready.

  • Follow instructions issued by local authorities in case of heavy rainfall or flash flood warnings.

  • Tourists and trekkers should avoid visiting landslide-prone and flood-prone areas during the forecast period.

    • While Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience hot and humid weather until July 18, weather conditions are likely to change significantly from July 20 onward, bringing widespread rainfall across most parts of the Union Territory. With the risk of heavy rain, flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and waterlogging, residents are advised to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions.
